Dear Friends,
Our Land Trust continues to preserve farmland and other open space in Southbury. You may have read about our latest success—on May 29 th the State Legislature passed a bill we sponsored that could lead to the preservation of 800 acres of farmland at the Southbury Training School.
In the past year we purchased a conservation easement on the Drumlin Hill Tree Farm, which is a key piece of land connecting our Phillips Farm and Lovdal Farm.
Late last year, working with the Southbury Historical Society and a generous donor, Marie Ludorf, we obtained a conservation easement on a picturesque piece of land surrounding an historic barn that Ms. Ludorf donated to the Historical Society.
The Land Trust currently owns or has conservation easements on more than 1,000 acres of land in Southbury. Most properties are open from dawn to dusk for your enjoyment. With your support we will continue to acquire additional land for aquifer protection, wildlife habitat, nature walks and other forms of passive recreation as well as offer programs like this year’s Legislative Forum, Earth Day Celebration, Connecticut Trails Day at Platt Farm, Crickets & Katydids, group hikes, stewardship workshops and the Gerry Ivers Scholarship.
Your support is crucial to our success
Since we are a private, non-profit organization and not a town agency, we rely upon contributions from people like you for financial support. As a growing organization, our administrative and staff expenses as well as property management costs are growing too. Please take a moment to complete the enclosed form and return it, with your donation, in the envelope provided. We do not buy or sell mailing lists, therefore if you’ve recently sent a membership donation, excuse this repeated request and pass it along to a friend.
Thank you,
Tom Crider

Welcome to The Southbury Land Trust web site! We are a private nonprofit conservation organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of Southbury Connecticut's natural resources for the enjoyment and benefit of all present and future generations.
The trust is supported by memberships and donations and provides an effective means to save land in its natural state in perpetuity. Our land and water resources will always be threatened, unless they can be protected forever. This is the mission of the Southbury Land Trust.
